June Events - Vol. 2

On the way home Sunday afternoon I popped into Make My Cake to picked up a slice of their always perfectly moist and tasty red velvet cake.  While waiting, I noticed the collection of postcards advertising local events.  Here are a few worth checking out:

URB ALT Festival

Sunday, June 18th is Father’s Day.There will be a number of events taking place around Harlem:

Miss Black American Princess, Inc. in association with Power 105.1 & Harlem PAL will host
The 35th Annual Father’s Day Basketball Classic

Also taking place farther uptown: 

REAL MEN COOK NY
This annual event is always a favorite.  In addition to the "sampling" there will be events and information available.  Hal Jackson of WBLS will be broadcasting live from noon to 4 p.m. and the "sampling" will be from 3-6 p.m.  Tickets in advance are $20 for adults and $10 for children.  At the door $25 for adults and $10 for children.

The JUNETEENTH FESTIVAL shall have its Gala Celebration and Salute Ceremony, on Monday, June 19th, with a 6:30pm reception and 8:00pm presentation to honor the Workshop’s founders:

Morgan Freeman, actor/director - Billie Allen, actress/director - Clayton Riley, journalist - Garland Lee Thompson, Exec. Director, FSWW

A Special Tribute to Theatre Legends:

Micki Grant, playwright/actress - Gertrude Jeannette, Exec. Director, H.A.D.L.E.Y. Players - Crystal Field, Exec. Director, Theater For The New City - Lloyd Richards, Director/producer - Natsu Ifill, Arts administrator/NY Dept. of Cultural Affairs (Retiree)

and the alumni membership since the opening of the FSWW in FY1973.
