Content submission guidelines

Content Qualifications

1. All content must incorporate correct English grammar, capitalization, sentence structure, spelling and punctuation. Poorly written submissions will be edited for clarity or rejected.

2. Content must be free of excessive self-promotion, and should not contain a full unabbreviated press release or other advertisement.

3. Content must not be defamatory in nature or contain pornography or excessive profanity.

Submission Requirements:

The following fields apply to all text-based submissions:

1. Headline - A descriptive and precise title. Place the most important words and at the beginning of your headline. For example, Summit County, Colorado Wedding Locations and Advice is a great headline. For our purposes The Best Day of My Life is a poor headline because it doesn't describe the content in searchable terms.

Search engines will discover your content via this headline as well as through the frequency of key words or key phrases within the body of your submission. While you need a specific, descriptive headline - and we value this when making offers - the words you select for this headline must also appear within the text. If you're writing about Harlem, New York Wedding Locations and do not mention the words "Harlem, New York" or "wedding" in your article, then your content will not be discovered easily by search engines.

2. Related (Optional) - Suggestions for users who want to learn more about your topic. Resources can be online, print or other media.

Compensation:

At this time, UPTOWN flavor is unable to offer monetary reinbursement. All articles used will receive a byline, a bio with optional photo, a link to the author's email and/or the website as well as a link to your own page on our site listed under the category "contributors" in the sidebar.

Terms:

All rights are reserved by the author. Submissions must be original and you must own the copyright. Works are posted for an indefinite period of time. We commit to sticking with the original views and message of submissions, however we do reserve the right to edit work to better suit the format of the site. All work submitted is wholly owned by the author and as such, authors may request to have their submitted works removed at any time.

Specific guidelines for each discipline are as follows:

EDITORIAL WRITERS interested in submitting articles for a particular section should email their article or query to uptownflavor[at]gmail.com. All articles should be no more than 1,200 words.

Photographers, sculptors, painters, animators and other VISUAL ARTISTS interested in submitting work to UPTOWN should email their work, including a link to a representative web site or samples of their work as attachments. UPTOWN does not publish explicit, nude or most semi-nude work. When submitting static images, please compress no more than three sample images to 50kb or less. All images must be a .gif or .jpg. Even better is to submit photos directly to the flickr photo pool with uptownflavor and harlem as tags. When emailing submissions, please type "electronic submissions" in the subject line.

Submissions received without the proper subject line may be deemed spam and discarded unopened. Images will be scanned for viruses before they are opened, and suspicious files will be discarded unopened.

MUSIC/FILM PUBLICISTS, PRODUCERS AND COLUMNISTS, seeking to submit reviews to UPTOWN should also forward their information to uptownflavor[at]mail.com. Music reviews should not exceed 800 words in length. Please type "music/film submission" in the subject header. Preference will be given to projects that align with UPTOWN’s demographic target.

Once materials are submitted, writers give UPTOWN permission to immediately publish those works online. Our staff is dedicated to preserving the original viewpoint and message of all correspondence received; however, all material is subject to review and editing by our online editors and it may not appear exactly as submitted.

Thank you for your interest.
